Frames & Framing
Jenkins Showler
Gallery simplifies and completes your fine art acquisition by offering in-house
professional custom framing services. The final presentation of your artwork is
an important factor in the proper care of your collection. If the original frame
is in good condition or can be restored then you may want to reuse it. If
however, you choose new framing, remain consistent with the work using a
traditional frame with traditional work and a modern frame with contemporary
work.
Works on canvas or board are simply inserted into a frame, which generally
consist of a white linen liner and an outer capping of your choice.
Works on paper require glass and mats. Museum or conservation quality mats
protect your art and are permanent, durable and chemically stable. The artwork
is hinged to the mat at the top only and a conservation barrier is placed behind
the work. Only conservation materials should touch the work.
Glass is generally used on paper pieces to protect them from the elements.
There are many types to choose from with regular glass the most popular as it
magnifies the image and, unlike non-glare glass which is etched, does not omit
detail.
Works under glass should not be exposed to direct sunlight therefore the
expensive image perfect and den glass are not usually necessary.
Special care must be taken with original art. Inexperience or carelessness
can devalue the work. A professional framer can help you select framing
materials that will ensure the safety of your art collection.
