Merv Brandel was born in 1948 in Kelowna where he grew up with the notion of becoming an artist. After graduating from the Alberta College of Art in 1973, he worked as a commercial illustrator for eleven years. He owned and operated his own commercial
art business, specializing in illustrations drawn for architects.
In 1984 Merv started to paint full time, his precision in the commercial arts showing through in his startlingly realistic paintings.
Many of his works are scenes from the Okanagan
landscape where he grew up, painted in thephoto-realism style that he is renowned for.
Merv now lives in Qualicum Beach with his family and spends his days painting.
